The solution has been sought and progress has been made to mitigate the issue surrounding the accidents that are common on CR Swart Road.
Wilro Park residents commended Action SA and DA officials for coming to their rescue after years of requests for assistance to get barrier rails put up along the infamous CR Swart Road in Ward 83 had fallen on deaf ears.
This stretch of road is located on CR Swart Road between Tambotie and Hexrivier Roads.
According to Ward 83 DA Councillor, Florence Roberts a total of five collisions occurred over the past three years with the most recent collision occurring approximately one month ago.
“Although this part of CR Swart is a risk to all drivers, it’s the elderly residents living on the bend who have suffered the most. Just imagine the shock of someone driving through your garden wall in the middle of the night. Needless to say, this bend had been on my priority list since I stepped in as ward councillor three years ago,” she said.
Florence added that the family living on the corner in question endured much anxiety and loss because of the four motor vehicle accidents where the cars crashed through their garden wall.
“It took about two years before JRA had the bolts needed to complete the guardrails available, and during that time the resident, Andries Jacobs even offered to buy and supply the needed materials to have this issue resolved,” Florence said.
Action SA’s newly elected ward committee member, Lucas Likhela was also made aware of this situation, and he approached councillor Carin van der Schyf as well as the ActionSA Joburg Caucus Chief Whip, Councillor Marcel Coutriers to assist in resolving the matter. Both individuals reside in the ward.
The duo – together with DA officials – immediately tackled the issue, resulting in Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) visiting the ward and a commitment being made.
Both party officials told the Record the communities in Johannesburg could rest assured that their plight would be addressed promptly.
Representatives from both parties were excited to announce that JRA successfully completed the project and motorists can now look forward to a safer stretch of road, and Florence concluded, “It has been a long two year wait, but the family that lives on this corner will now have less anxiety and loss.”
